Legend of Zelda, The (Europe) (Rev 1) (Virtual Console)
About This Game
The Legend of Zelda is the seminal action-adventure game released for the NES in 1986. Players control Link as he explores the overworld of Hyrule, enters dungeons, collects items, and seeks the eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom to rescue Princess Zelda and defeat the evil Ganon.
Story
An evil wizard named Ganon has stolen the Triforce of Power and kidnapped Princess Zelda. Link, a young hero armed with courage and the legendary Master Sword, must venture across Hyrule, retrieve the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom hidden in dangerous dungeons, and use them to infiltrate Ganon's stronghold and restore peace to the kingdom.
Guide & Tips
Begin by acquiring the wooden sword in the starting cave. Explore the overworld to locate dungeons marked by symbols on the map. Each dungeon contains a map, compass, and a key item (such as the boomerang or bow) needed to progress. Collect heart containers to increase your health. After obtaining all eight Triforce pieces, enter Ganon's lair in Death Mountain to defeat him and rescue Zelda.
Controls
D-Pad: Move Link; A Button: Swing sword / use selected item; B Button: Use secondary item; Start Button: Pause game / open map; Select Button: Toggle map view.
Trivia
The Legend of Zelda was the first NES game to feature a battery-backed save system, allowing players to continue their quest after turning off the console. It also introduced the iconic 'heart container' health system and the concept of an overworld interconnected with dungeons.
