Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (USA) (Collector's Edition)

About This Game

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is the second installment in the Legend of Zelda series, released for the NES in 1988. Unlike its top‑down predecessor, it blends side‑scrolling action with RPG elements, tasking Link with rescuing Princess Zelda from a sleeping spell by collecting six crystals and defeating the evil Shadow Link.

Story

After the events of the original Legend of Zelda, the evil wizard who once threatened Hyrule casts a sleeping spell on Princess Zelda. To break the spell, Link must travel across the land, locate six hidden palaces, and place the sacred crystals within them. As he restores each crystal, the seal on Zelda weakens, culminating in a final confrontation with Link's own shadow, the manifestation of the wizard's lingering menace.

Guide & Tips

Begin by exploring the overworld map, visiting towns to gather hints and purchase items. Defeat enemies to earn experience points, which increase Link's attack, magic, and life stats. Enter each of the six palaces, solve simple puzzles, and place the corresponding crystal in the altar. Use magic spells wisely—some are essential for breaking barriers or defeating bosses. Save often at the monastery and keep an eye on your magic points; replenish them by finding magic containers or using potions.

Controls

D-Pad: Move Link; A Button: Jump / Use selected item; B Button: Sword attack / Thrust; Start: Pause game / Open menu; Select: Switch between items or bring up the map (depending on version).

Trivia

Zelda II is the only side‑scrolling entry in the main Legend of Zelda series and introduced the experience‑point leveling system that would later influence many role‑playing games.
