About This Game
The Legend of Zelda is an iconic action-adventure game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986. Players control Link as he explores the overworld and dungeons to collect the eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom and rescue Princess Zelda from the evil Ganon.
Story
The evil wizard Ganon has invaded the kingdom of Hyrule, stealing the Triforce of Power and kidnapping Princess Zelda. To protect the Triforce of Wisdom, Zelda splits it into eight fragments and hides them across the land. Link, a young hero, must retrieve these fragments, defeat Ganon's minions, rescue Zelda, and restore peace to Hyrule.
Guide & Tips
Begin by acquiring the sword in the starting cave, then venture into the overworld to locate the first dungeon. Use the map to find hidden entrances, collect hearts and items, and defeat bosses to retrieve each Triforce piece. Save your progress at any time using the battery-backed save feature.

D-Pad: Move Link; A Button: Swing sword / use selected item; B Button: Use secondary item; Start Button: Pause game / open menu; Select Button: (unused in original).
Cheats & Passwords
Second Quest: At the title screen, hold Up and press A to start the second quest (a harder remix of the original map). No other official cheat codes are known.
Trivia
The Legend of Zelda was the first NES game to feature a battery-backed save system, allowing players to preserve progress. Its success launched one of Nintendo's most enduring franchises and introduced many gameplay conventions still used today, such as the overworld/dungeon structure and item-based puzzles.
