About This Game
The Legend of Zelda is an action-adventure game where players control Link as he explores the overworld and dungeons to collect the eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom and defeat the evil Ganon to save Princess Zelda.
Story
Link, a young hero, must venture across the land of Hyrule to retrieve the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom hidden in dungeons, defeat the evil warlord Ganon, and rescue Princess Zelda.
Guide & Tips
Begin by obtaining the sword in the starting cave, then wander the overworld to locate dungeon entrances. Inside each dungeon, find the map and compass, collect keys, bombs, and hearts, defeat the boss to earn a Triforce shard, and repeat until all eight shards are gathered. Use the shards to access the final confrontation with Ganon.
Controls
D-Pad: Move Link; A Button: Swing sword / use selected item; B Button: Use equipped item (e.g., bomb, boomerang); Start Button: Pause game / open subscreen; Select Button: (no function in the original).
Cheats & Passwords
Enter the name 'ZELDA' on the file select screen to start the Second Quest.
Trivia
The Legend of Zelda was the first NES game to feature a battery-backed save system, allowing players to continue their progress. It also introduced the concept of a 'second quest' unlocked by naming your save file 'ZELDA'.
