About This Game
Pokémon Gold is the second installment in the main Pokémon series, released for Game Boy Color in 1999. It introduced the Johto region and 100 new Pokémon species.
Story
You are a young Pokémon trainer starting your journey in the Johto region. After receiving your first Pokémon from Professor Elm, you set out to become a Pokémon Master by collecting badges, battling other trainers, and filling your Pokédex. Along the way, you'll encounter the mysterious Team Rocket and work to thwart their plans to exploit Pokémon for power.
Guide & Tips
Start in New Bark Town and choose your starter Pokémon (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile). Complete the eight Johto Gym badges, defeat the Elite Four, and then challenge the Kanto region's eight gyms. Remember to catch and train a diverse team, and complete the Pokédex by encountering all 251 Pokémon.
Controls
Directional Pad - Move character / Select menu items. A Button - Confirm / Talk / Interact. B Button - Cancel / Open menu. Start Button - Open main menu. Select Button - Switch between Pokémon items.

Trivia
Pokémon Gold was released alongside Pokémon Silver, with the third version, Crystal, released a year later. The real-time clock feature allowed for day and night cycles, affecting which Pokémon could be encountered. The game introduced breeding mechanics and held items for the first time in the series.
