About This Game
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is an action-adventure game for the Nintendo DS, the first Zelda title on a handheld system. It uses the DS touchscreen for movement, combat, and puzzle-solving, and introduces an hourglass mechanic that limits the time Link can spend in certain dungeons.
Story
Link sets sail with his friend Tetra to explore the World of the Ocean King. When Tetra is kidnapped by the mysterious Ghost Ship, Link must pursue her across the seas. To rescue her, he gathers the three Pure Metals and the Sand of Hours to forge the Phantom Sword, the only weapon capable of defeating the evil entity Bellum that commands the Ghost Ship. After a climactic battle, Link frees Tetra and restores peace to the ocean.
Guide & Tips
Use the stylus to draw a path for Link to follow; tap enemies to swing the sword. Collect items and use them by tapping their icons on the touchscreen. Pay attention to the hourglass in dungeons—when it runs out, you must restart the section. Upgrade your sword by collecting the three Pure Metals and the Sand of Hours to forge the Phantom Sword, which is needed to defeat the final boss.
Controls
D-Pad: Move Link (alternative to stylus). A Button: Swing sword / confirm. B Button: Use secondary item / cancel. L/R Buttons: Adjust camera / shift touchscreen perspective. Touchscreen: Draw path for movement, tap to attack, select items, draw symbols for special abilities. Start: Pause menu. Select: Open map.
Trivia
Phantom Hourglass was the first Zelda game developed specifically for a handheld console and introduced touchscreen-based controls that would become a hallmark of later DS Zelda titles. The game also features a multiplayer mode via DS Download Play, allowing up to four players to compete in a battle minigame.
