About This Game
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is an action-adventure game developed by Nintendo for the Game Boy. It was released in 1993 and is the fourth installment in The Legend of Zelda series. The game follows Link's journey after being shipwrecked on Koholint Island, where he must awaken the Wind Fish to escape.
Story
After being shipwrecked, Link washes up on the mysterious Koholint Island, where he meets various characters and learns that the only way to escape is to awaken the Wind Fish, a deity sleeping in an egg atop Mt. Tamaranch. To do this, Link must complete eight dungeons and collect the eight instruments of the Sirens.
Guide & Tips
The game is divided into several dungeons that Link must complete to collect instruments needed to awaken the Wind Fish. Key locations include Mabe Village, Tail Cave, Bottle Grotto, Key Cavern, Angler's Tunnel, Catfish's Maw, Eagle's Tower, and Turtle Rock. Players should explore thoroughly, as many secrets are hidden in bushes, caves, and under water.
Controls
Directional Pad: Move Link, A Button: Use sword/item, B Button: Jump/Cancel, Start: Pause menu, Select: Map/Item menu
Cheats & Passwords
At the title screen, press Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start to enable a sound test. During gameplay, press Select + Start to pause and press B to restart. To keep your items when restarting, press A instead of B.
Trivia
The game was originally developed for the Game Boy but was later remade for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. It features cameos from characters from other Nintendo games, such as Kirby and Yoshi. The game's surreal dreamlike atmosphere was inspired by the novel "The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet" by Eleanor Cameron.
