About This Game

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is a side-scrolling action RPG released for the NES and later reissued on the Game Boy Advance as part of the Classic NES Series. Players control Link as he ventures across the kingdom of Hyrule to rescue Princess Zelda from a sleeping spell, battling enemies, gaining experience, learning spells, and collecting six crystals to break the seal on the Great Palace.

Story

Princess Zelda has fallen under a sleeping spell cast by the evil wizard Ganon. To break the spell, Link must travel across Hyrule, defeat the guardians of six palaces, and retrieve the crystals that seal the Great Palace. Only by placing all six crystals in the altar can the spell be lifted and Zelda be awakened.

Guide & Tips

• Gain experience by defeating enemies; leveling up increases your attack, magic, and life. • Learn spells (Shield, Jump, Life, Fairy, Reflect, and Spell) from the various townspeople; they are essential for surviving tougher areas. • Collect the six crystals scattered in palaces; each palace also contains a boss that must be defeated to obtain the crystal. • Use the Map (Select) frequently to avoid getting lost in the overworld. • Save your progress at the start of each palace; you can continue from there after a game over.

Trivia

• Zelda II is the only mainline Zelda game that uses side-scrolling platforming rather than top-down exploration. • It introduced the experience point and level‑up system, a mechanic not seen again in the series until much later. • The game’s difficulty was notorious; many players relied on the ‘Continue’ feature to progress. • The GBA Classic NES Series version is an exact emulation of the original NES ROM, preserving all original bugs and quirks.
