About This Game

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past & Four Swords is a Game Boy Advance compilation that pairs the classic SNES title A Link to the Past with the multiplayer-focused Four Swords adventure. Players can experience Link's original quest to rescue Princess Zelda and defeat Ganon in the Light and Dark Worlds, then team up with up to three friends (via link cables) to tackle the cooperative puzzle‑filled Four Swords quest, where the legendary Four Sword splits Link into four colored versions to thwart the sorcerer Vaati.

Story

In A Link to the Past, Link awakens to find Princess Zelda imprisoned by the evil wizard Agahnim, who seeks to break the seal on the Dark World and release the demon king Ganon. Link must travel between the Light and Dark Worlds, retrieve the three Pendants of Virtue, claim the Master Sword, and rescue Zelda before defeating Ganon. In Four Swords, the mischievous wind mage Vaati has shattered the Four Sword and kidnapped Zelda again. Link must reunite the four blades by working with up to three allies, each representing a different color, to restore the sword, rescue Zelda, and seal Vaati away.

Guide & Tips

Begin in the Light World, collect the three pendants, and master the Master Sword to enter the Dark World. Retrieve the crystals from the seven dungeons to break Ganon's seal. After defeating Ganon, the game unlocks the Four Swords mode: select a file, connect up to three GBAs via link cables, and choose a character color. Communicate to solve simultaneous puzzles—push blocks, hit switches, and defeat enemies together. Keep an eye on the shared rupee counter; rupees collected by any player are added to the total, enabling the purchase of better items from the in‑game shop. Save frequently at the owl statues in each world to avoid losing progress.

Controls

D-Pad: Move Link; A Button: Swing sword / use selected item; B Button: Use secondary item; L Button: Open map / switch screens (in Four Swords, view teammate positions); R Button: Open inventory / pause menu; Start: Pause game; Select: Toggle between worlds (in A Link to the Past) or cycle through character colors (in Four Swords).

Trivia

This GBA cartridge was the first official release to bundle both A Link to the Past and Four Swords on a single cartridge, making it a unique collector's item. The Four Swords mode was originally a bonus feature included with the GameCube game The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, but the GBA version adapted it for link‑cable multiplayer, allowing up to four players to play simultaneously using just one game pak.
