The Japanese version was released in three color-coded editions (Blue, White, and Yellow), each featuring exclusive Navis and chips. Battle Network 3 introduced the 'Dark Chip' mechanic, allowing risky high‑power attacks at the cost of Navi HP. It was the first BN game to include a versus mode where players could link via Game Boy Advance link cable for head‑to‑head NetBattles.
