About This Game

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is a 2D action-platformer for the Nintendo DS, part of the long-running Castlevania series. Players control Shanoa, a member of the Ecclesia organization, who uses magical glyphs to absorb and unleash powers in order to stop Dracula's resurrection.

Story

After the fall of the Belmont clan, the Ecclesia organization was created to oppose Dracula using the power of glyphs. Shanoa, a young woman who lost her memories after a failed experiment, is tasked with retrieving the three Dominus glyphs needed to seal Dracula’s power. As she journeys through haunted lands, she battles monsters, recovers fragments of her past, and ultimately confronts Dracula himself. In the climax, Shanoa sacrifices herself to channel the Dominus glyphs, sealing the vampire lord away—though her fate remains ambiguous, leaving hope that her spirit may one day return.

Guide & Tips

Begin by exploring the starting village to learn basic controls. Collect glyphs from defeated enemies and treasure chests; each glyph can be equipped in one of two slots (attack or support). Use attack glyphs to damage foes and support glyphs for defensive abilities like shields or healing. Progress through stages, defeating mid‑bosses to obtain key items that unlock new areas. Pay attention to enemy patterns and use the dash (X) to evade attacks. When you reach the final castle, gather the three Dominus glyphs, then face Dracula in a multi‑phase battle. Utilize the best combination of attack and support glyphs, and remember to heal with items or support glyphs when needed.

Controls

D-pad: Move; A: Jump; B: Attack (Whip); Y: Subweapon; X: Dash; L/R: Switch Subweapon (hold); Start: Pause; Select: Map.

Trivia

• Order of Ecclesia was the first Castlevania title to introduce the Glyph system, allowing players to mix and match attack and support abilities. • It is widely regarded as the last major 2‑D Castlevania released before the series shifted to 3‑D with the Lords of Shadow saga. • The game’s soundtrack was composed by longtime series veteran Michiru Yamane, who also scored Symphony of the Night. • Despite being a DS title, the game features a widescreen mode that can be enabled via certain homebrew patches, displaying the action in a 16:9 aspect ratio. • The Japanese box art depicts Shanoa holding a glyph‑filled sword, a visual nod to the game’s core mechanic.
