About This Game
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is a 2D action-platformer for the Nintendo DS, released in 2006. Players control Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin as they explore Dracula's castle, switching between the two characters to utilize their distinct abilities—Jonathan's whip-based combat and Charlotte's magic—to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and rescue the kidnapped Stella and Loretta from the vampire painter Brauner.
Guide & Tips
Begin by selecting either Jonathan or Charlotte; you can switch characters at any time by pressing the L button. Use the D‑pad to move, A to jump, and B to perform the primary attack (whip for Jonathan, staff for Charlotte). Press Y to throw sub‑weapons (cross, holy water, axe, etc.) and X to cast Charlotte’s magic spells or use items. Collect hearts to power sub‑weapons and magic. Explore each room, break candles for items, and defeat bosses to obtain the portrait fragments needed to progress. Defeating the final boss, Brauner, will rescue the captives and end the game.

The game's soundtrack, composed by Michiru Yamane, features rearranged themes from earlier Castlevania titles, notably a remix of 'Bloody Tears' used in the final battle.
