About This Game
Pokémon Gold is the second-generation core series Pokémon game released for the Game Boy Color in 2000. It introduced a real-time clock, day/night cycles, breeding, and the ability to hold items, expanding the gameplay mechanics of the original Red/Blue games.
Story
You play as a young Pokémon trainer from New Bark Town who sets out on a journey to become the Pokémon Champion. Guided by Professor Elm, you must travel across the Johto region, thwart the schemes of Team Rocket, collect Gym Badges, and prove your strength by defeating the Elite Four and the Champion. After conquering Johto, your adventure continues into Kanto, where you can face the ultimate test against the legendary Trainer Red atop Mt. Silver.
Guide & Tips
Begin in New Bark Town, where Professor Elm lets you choose one of three starter Pokémon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. After receiving your Pokédex, head to Route 29 to catch early Pokémon, then visit Violet City to challenge the first Gym Leader, Falkner. Follow the storyline through Johto, collecting eight Gym Badges, defeating the Elite Four, and finally challenging Champion Lance in the Indigo Plateau. Along the way, you can explore the Kanto region after defeating the Johto Elite Four, where you can collect eight more Badges and face Red at Mt. Silver.

Trivia
Pokémon Gold was the first main series game to feature a real-time clock, enabling day/night cycles and time-based events. It also introduced Pokémon breeding, allowing players to hatch Eggs and obtain baby Pokémon. The game's internal battery powers the clock; when the battery dies, time-based features stop working, a well-known issue among collectors.
