Boktai was one of the first games to utilize a real-time solar sensor for gameplay. It was designed by Hideo Kojima (of Metal Gear Solid fame) specifically to encourage children to play outside. The game's sequel, Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, expanded on the solar sensor mechanics.
