About This Game

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is the fourth installment in the Fire Emblem series, a tactical role-playing game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996. It introduces a unique genealogy system where characters can marry, have children, and pass on skills and weapons across two generations.

Story

Set on the continent of Jugdral, the game tells the tale of a holy war between the descendants of the legendary Crusaders and the tyrannical Grannvale Empire. The first generation follows the noble knight Sigurd as he defends his homeland, uncovers conspiracies, and battles the dark dragon Loptyr. After his tragic fate, the story continues with his son Seliph, who leads a rebellion to free Jugdral from Grannvale's oppression and ultimately confronts the evil god Loptyr himself.

Guide & Tips

Focus on positioning: keep melee units front-line and ranged units behind cover. Use terrain (forests, forts) for defense bonuses. Visit the Arena regularly to gain experience and gold. Pay attention to the weapon triangle (sword > axe > lance > sword) and equip units accordingly. Heal wounded units with staff users before they fall, and remember that characters can pass on skills and weapons to their children through marriage.

Controls

D-Pad: Move cursor/unit; A Button: Confirm/select action; B Button: Cancel/back; X Button: Open item menu/view unit stats; Y Button: Open battle menu/skip dialogue; Start Button: Pause/open main menu; Select Button: Toggle help/text speed.

Trivia

Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War was the first title in the series to feature a marriage and children system, allowing characters to inherit stats, skills, and weapons. It also introduced the 'Arena' for grinding experience, a mechanic that became a staple in later entries. The game’s soundtrack was composed by Yukie Morimoto, and its ending theme 'Beyond the Time' remains a fan favorite.
