About This Game

Castlevania (originally Akumajō Dracula) is a side-scrolling action-platformer where Simon Belmont ventures into Dracula's castle to defeat the vampire lord.

Story

In 1691, the vampire Count Dracula has risen again, casting a shadow over Transylvania. The Belmont clan, sworn to hunt the night, sends its latest heir, Simon Belmont, into Dracula's castle to destroy the evil lord and restore peace.

Guide & Tips

Begin at the castle gates, whip enemies to clear your path. Collect hearts to upgrade your whip and find subweapons (axe, holy water, fireball, cross, stopwatch) hidden in breakable walls. Use Up + Attack to throw subweapons. Defend against classic bosses like the Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, and Dracula himself by learning their patterns and striking when vulnerable. Manage your lives carefully; extra lives can be found in hidden rooms or earned via the Konami Code.

Controls

D-pad: Move left/right, crouch (down). A Button: Jump. B Button: Whip attack. Up + Attack: Throw subweapon. Start: Pause game. Select: Switch subweapon type (if multiple are collected).

Cheats & Passwords

At the title screen, input the Konami Code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, then press Start. This grants 30 lives. Additionally, Game Genie code SZLUOAAA provides infinite lives.

Trivia

Castlevania was the first game in the long-running series, released in Japan in 1986 and later in North America and Europe. Its iconic soundtrack was composed by Kinuyo Yamashita, and the game introduced the now-legendary 'Konami Code' cheat, which became a staple in many Konami titles.
