About This Game
Ninja Gaiden (known as 忍者龙剑传 in Japan) is a challenging side-scrolling action-platformer released for the NES in 1988. Players control Ryu Hayabusa, a ninja seeking revenge for his father's murder while battling the demon Jaquio and his minions.
Story
Ryu Hayabusa returns to his village to find it razed and his father murdered by the evil Jaquio, who seeks to unleash ancient demonic power. Ryu embarks on a quest for vengeance, battling through six acts filled with ninjas, monsters, and traps to confront Jaquio and restore peace.
Guide & Tips
Start by mastering the basic controls: use the D-pad to move, A to jump, and B to attack. Collect power-ups and special weapons scattered throughout each stage. Learn enemy patterns and boss weaknesses; many bosses have a specific timing window for their attacks. Use the pause menu (Start) to check your remaining lives and continue via passwords if you lose all lives. Aim to reach the final showdown with Jaquio in Act 6.
Controls
D-pad: Move left/right, crouch (down), look up (up). A: Jump. B: Attack / use equipped weapon. Start: Pause game / access continue menu. Select: Cycle through sub‑weapons when available.
Cheats & Passwords
On the title screen, input the Konami Code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, then press Start. This grants 30 extra lives.
Trivia
Ninja Gaiden was one of the first NES games to feature cinematic cutscenes between levels, raising the bar for storytelling on the platform. Its high difficulty earned it a reputation as a 'controller‑thrower' among players.
