About This Game
Double Dragon is a classic side-scrolling beat-'em-up arcade game developed by Technos Japan. Players control Billy and Jimmy Lee as they fight through the streets to rescue Billy's girlfriend Marian from the villainous Black Warriors gang. This NES version maintains the core gameplay with multiple environments and cooperative play.
Story
Billy Lee receives a distressing phone call that his girlfriend Marian has been kidnapped by the ruthless Black Warriors gang led by Willy Mackey. Billy and his twin brother Jimmy set out on a violent journey through the city streets, nightclubs, and industrial areas to confront the gang and rescue Marian. The brothers face waves of gang members using only their martial arts skills and whatever weapons they can find along the way.
Guide & Tips
Master the basic moves: punch (A button) and kick (B button). Learn enemy attack patterns - some enemies can be grabbed and thrown. Weapons like bats and knives spawn periodically and deal more damage. In cooperative mode, coordinate attacks with your partner. Practice timing jumps to avoid attacks and reach higher areas.
Controls
D-pad: Move character. A button: Punch/Jump (when pressing up). B button: Kick/Weapon swing. Start: Pause game. Select: Not used.
Cheats & Passwords
At the title screen, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A to start with 10 lives. Some versions also have weapon select codes. Using a second controller in port 2 for two-player simultaneous play.
Trivia
Double Dragon was one of the first commercially successful beat-'em-up games and helped establish the genre. It was originally released as an arcade game in 1987 before being ported to numerous home consoles. The game was notable for its digitized speech samples, which were impressive for the time. A sequel Double Dragon II was also produced, and the franchise inspired countless imitators.
