About This Game
The original Legend of Zelda, released in Japan as Zelda no Densetsu 1 - The Hyrule Fantasy, is an action-adventure game where players control Link as he explores the overworld of Hyrule, collects eight pieces of the Triforce, and defeats Ganon to rescue Princess Zelda.
Story
The evil warlord Ganon has invaded Hyrule, stole the Triforce of Power, and kidnapped Princess Zelda. Link, a young hero armed with courage and the Triforce of Wisdom, must venture across the land, recover the eight scattered Triforce pieces, and defeat Ganon to restore peace.
Guide & Tips
Begin by acquiring the Wooden Sword in the starting cave, then explore the overworld to locate the eight dungeons. Each dungeon contains a map, compass, and a key item needed to progress. Collect Heart Containers to increase your life gauge. After retrieving all eight Triforce pieces from the dungeons, enter Ganon's lair in Death Mountain, defeat him, and rescue Princess Zelda.
Controls
D-pad: Move Link; A Button: Use selected item (sword by default); B Button: Use secondary item; Start: Pause game; Select: Switch between equipped items.
Cheats & Passwords
At the title screen, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A to start the Second Quest (a harder remix of the game).
Trivia
The Japanese version was the first home console game to use a battery-backed save feature, allowing players to retain progress between sessions. It also introduced the iconic 'heart container' system that became a staple of the series.
