About This Game
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos is a side-scrolling action-platformer released for the NES in 1990. Players control ninja Ryu Hayabusa as he battles through eight stages to stop the evil Jaquio from obtaining the Dark Sword of Chaos.
Story
After defeating the demon Jaquio in the first game, Ryu Hayabusa learns that Jaquio has been resurrected and seeks the three pieces of the Dark Sword of Chaos to unleash ultimate evil. Ryu must travel across varied landscapes—from city streets to ancient temples—collecting the sword fragments and defeating Jaquio’s minions before the dark blade can be reassembled.
Guide & Tips
Master the wall jump to reach high platforms and avoid enemy projectiles. Use sub‑weasures (shuriken, fire wheel, etc.) strategically for tougher enemies and bosses. Collect the hidden 1‑up items scattered in each stage to extend your life count. Learn enemy patterns; many foes have predictable attack cycles that can be exploited for safe hits. When facing bosses, focus on dodging their signature moves and striking during their recovery frames.
Controls
D‑Pad: Move left/right, crouch, look up; A Button: Jump; B Button: Attack; Start: Pause/Unpause; Select: (no default function in this title).
Trivia
Ninja Gaiden II was one of the earliest NES titles to feature cinematic cutscenes with animated character portraits and dialogue, setting a new standard for storytelling on the platform. The game's soundtrack, composed by Ryuichi Nishimura, is still celebrated for its energetic chiptune rock themes.
