About This Game

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game is a side‑scrolling beat ’em up for the NES, ported from the 1989 arcade classic. Players choose one of the four turtles—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael—to fight through streets, sewers, and rooftops, defeating Foot Clan ninjas and bosses to stop Shredder’s evil plan.

Story

Shredder and the Foot Clan have seized New York City, kidnapping April O'Neil and threatening to unleash a mutagenic bomb. The four turtles must battle through the city's streets, subterranean tunnels, and rooftops to rescue April, defeat Shredder, and save the city from destruction.

Guide & Tips

Start by selecting your preferred turtle. Use the D‑pad to move, A to jump, and B to attack. Each turtle has a unique weapon: Leonardo (katana), Michelangelo (nunchucks), Donatello (bo staff), Raphael (sai). Defeat regular enemies to earn points; when a boss appears, learn its pattern and dodge its attacks before striking. Collect pizza slices scattered throughout levels to restore health. If you lose all lives, you can continue from the last checkpoint by pressing Start. Use the Select button to switch to another turtle at any time, which can be helpful when facing enemies weak to a specific weapon.

Controls

D‑Pad: Move; A Button: Jump; B Button: Attack/Use Weapon; Start: Pause/Continue; Select: Switch Turtle.

Cheats & Passwords

At the title screen, input the Konami Code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, then press Start. This grants 30 lives.

Trivia

The NES version uses the MMC3 mapper, allowing a 4Mb (512KB) ROM—larger than most NES titles of the era—and features the famous Konami Code for extra lives.
