About This Game
Pokémon Red is the original 1996 Game Boy role-playing game that launched the Pokémon franchise. Players explore the Kanto region, capture and train Pokémon, battle Gym Leaders, and strive to become the Champion while thwarting Team Rocket.
Story
You are a young boy/girl who just moved to Pallet Town. After receiving your first Pokémon from Professor Oak, you set out on a journey to become the greatest Pokémon Trainer. Along the way, you must thwart the evil plans of Team Rocket, collect eight Gym Badges, defeat the Elite Four, and ultimately become the Champion of the Pokémon League.
Guide & Tips
Begin in Pallet Town, choose your starter Pokémon from Professor Oak, and receive a Pokédex. Travel through Kanto, defeating eight Gym Leaders to earn badges. Challenge the Elite Four and the Champion to become the Pokémon Master. After the main story, you can continue catching Pokémon, explore the Safari Zone, and battle friends via link cable.
Controls
D-pad: Move character/menu selection. A button: Confirm action, talk, select. B button: Cancel, run, or open menu. Start button: Open pause/menu. Select button: Often used for quick item access or menu shortcuts (varies by game).
Trivia
Pokémon Red was released in Japan as Pocket Monsters Red and Green; the international version combined elements from both. The elusive Mew could only be obtained through special Nintendo events, leading to many rumors and glitches. The game's iconic soundtrack was composed by Junichi Masuda, who also worked on later main series titles.
