About This Game
Double Dragon 3: The Sacred Stones is a side-scrolling beat 'em up released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. It is the third installment in the classic Double Dragon series, featuring martial arts combat and cooperative multiplayer gameplay.
Story
The story continues with Billy and Jimmy Lee as they face the mysterious Shadow Clan who have stolen the Sacred Stones. The brothers must fight through waves of enemies to recover the ancient artifacts and rescue those kidnapped in the chaos, following the series' signature theme of martial arts justice against criminal organizations.
Guide & Tips
Each character has unique abilities - Billy excels with weapons, Jimmy is balanced, and Willy has powerful kicks. Learn each character's special moves (A+B button combinations) for more damage. Watch enemy attack patterns and strike during their recovery frames. Use environmental objects as weapons. In multiplayer, coordinate attacks to overwhelm groups of enemies.
Controls
D-Pad: Move character. A Button: Punch/Jump (when pressing up). B Button: Kick/Weapon attack. START: Pause game. SELECT: Switch characters in 2-player mode. Press A+B simultaneously for special moves.
Cheats & Passwords
At the title screen press DOWN, UP, RIGHT, LEFT, A, B, A, START to start on Stage 4. For invincibility, pause during gameplay and press UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, A, B to become invulnerable until the next stage.
Trivia
This was the first Double Dragon game to feature digitized speech samples and improved graphics with larger sprites compared to previous entries. The Japanese version preceded North American release and included different character designs. It was also notable for removing the series' signature hair-pulling mechanic in favor of weapon-based combat.
