About This Game
Tetris is a classic puzzle video game where players arrange falling blocks to form complete lines.
Story
Tetris was created by Soviet programmer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984. The name comes from the Greek numerical prefix 'tetra-' (four) and Pajitnov's favorite sport, tennis. It became one of the best-selling video games of all time after its release on various platforms including the NES.
Guide & Tips
Clear lines by arranging blocks to fit together without gaps. As the game progresses, blocks fall faster. The game ends when blocks reach the top of the screen.
Controls
D-Pad: Move blocks left/right. A Button: Rotate block clockwise. B Button: Rotate block counterclockwise. Start: Pause/Resume game.
Cheats & Passwords
On the NES version, you can start at higher levels by holding A and pressing Start on the level selection screen. Some versions allow for a 'ghost block' option to see where pieces will land.
Trivia
Tetris was involved in a complex licensing battle between several companies in the late 1980s. The game's rights were eventually secured by Nintendo for the NES version, which helped popularize the console in North America. The game has been featured in numerous movies, TV shows, and even inspired a documentary.
