About This Game

Super Mario Land is a side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. Released in 1989 as a launch title for the Game Boy, it is the first Mario game to appear on a handheld console. The game features Mario's adventure to rescue Princess Daisy from the alien Tatanga in the Sarasaland kingdom, spanning four distinct worlds.

Story

Princess Daisy of Sarasaland has been kidnapped by the alien Tatanga, who plans to marry her and take over the kingdom. Mario must travel through the four regions of Sarasaland - Birabuto, Muda, Easton, and Chai - to defeat Tatanga's minions and ultimately rescue Princess Daisy.

Guide & Tips

Navigate through four worlds (Birabuto, Muda, Easton, Chai) by defeating enemies and avoiding obstacles. Collect Super Mushrooms to grow larger and Fire Flowers to shoot fireballs. Reach the end of each world to face the boss. In World 1-3, reach the flagpole to complete the level. Use the invincibility effect from Stars to rush through difficult sections.

Controls

D-Pad: Move left/right, swim underwater | A Button: Jump | B Button: Fire fireballs (with Fire Flower) / Run | Start: Pause game | Select: Switch power-up items (when available)

Trivia

Super Mario Land was the first handheld Mario game and the first Mario game not created by Nintendo's main development team (Nintendo R&D1). The game uses a simplified version of the Super Mario Bros. engine. The music was composed by Toshiyuki Suzuki, who created memorable chiptune tracks optimized for the Game Boy's limited sound capabilities. The game sold over 18 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling Game Boy games of all time.
