About This Game

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (known in Japan as レイトン教授と悪魔の箱) is the second entry in Level-5's puzzle‑adventure series for the Nintendo DS. Players assume the role of Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice Luke Triton as they investigate the mysterious Elysian Box, a legendary artifact said to bring death to anyone who opens it.

Story

Professor Layton receives a letter from his friend Dr. Andrew Schrader, informing him that the legendary Elysian Box—said to kill anyone who opens it—has been stolen. Layton and his apprentice Luke travel to the town of Folsense to investigate. As they uncover clues, they encounter a cast of eccentric locals, solve intricate puzzles, and learn that the box is tied to a centuries‑old feud between two noble families. The mystery deepens when the box’s true nature is revealed, forcing Layton to confront both a deadly secret and the motives behind the theft.

Guide & Tips

Begin by exploring the starting town, talking to every NPC to gather hints and unlock puzzle locations. Solve puzzles to earn Picarats and hint coins, which can be used to reveal clues when stuck. Progress through the story by following the map markers, completing each chapter's set of puzzles, and using the collected hint coins wisely. Keep an eye out for hidden puzzle pieces and bonus puzzles that appear after certain story events. When you reach the final confrontation, ensure you have solved all available puzzles to unlock the true ending.
