About This Game
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a puzzle-adventure game where players assume the role of the esteemed archaeologist Professor Hershel Layton and his self-proclaimed apprentice Luke Triton as they investigate the mysterious village of St. Mystere in search of the legendary Golden Apple.
Story
Professor Layton receives a letter from his friend Lady Dahlia, requesting his help in the remote village of St. Mystere, where the legendary Golden Apple is said to be hidden. Upon arriving with his apprentice Luke, they discover the village is secluded by a mysterious fog and its inhabitants each pose a peculiar puzzle. As they solve riddles and uncover secrets, they learn that the village itself is a test designed by a reclusive genius to find a worthy successor, culminating in a revelation about the true nature of the Golden Apple and the bond between mentor and pupil.
Guide & Tips
Start by exploring the village, talking to every resident to gather hint coins and puzzle clues. Solve puzzles to unlock new areas and progress the story. Use the hint system wisely; you can buy hints with hint coins. Keep an eye on the map for locked doors that require specific items or solved puzzles.
Controls
Use the D‑Pad to move Professor Layton or Luke. Press A to interact/examine objects and confirm selections. Press B to cancel or go back. The Touch Screen is used to manipulate puzzle pieces, draw lines, and input answers. L and R buttons are not used in this title.
Trivia
The game was the first entry in the Level‑5 Professor Layton series, debuting in Japan in 2007 and later localized worldwide. Its puzzle design was overseen by Akira Tago, a renowned Japanese puzzle creator. The original Japanese title is 『レイトン教授と不思議な町』 (Reiton Kyōju to Fushigi na Machi).
