About This Game
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom is an action-platformer released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. Players control Ryu Hayabusa as he battles through six stages to stop the resurrected ancient ship and its demonic crew.
Story
A mysterious, ghostly ship appears off the coast of Japan, heralding the return of an ancient evil. Ryu Hayabusa, the legendary ninja, is summoned to investigate. As he boards the vessel, he discovers it is the dreaded Ancient Ship of Doom, a warship built to revive a demonic goddess who threatens to plunge the world into darkness. Ryu must fight through the ship's decks, defeat its guardians, and destroy the vessel before the demonic ritual can be completed.
Guide & Tips
• Learn enemy attack patterns; many foes have predictable movements that can be countered with well-timed slashes. • Use sub-weapons (shuriken, fire wheel, etc.) strategically for ranged damage or to break enemy shields. • Conserve health items; they are scarce, so avoid unnecessary damage. • In boss fights, focus on dodging their signature moves and strike during openings. • Practice the wall‑jump mechanic to reach hidden platforms and shortcuts.
Controls
D-Pad: Move Ryu left/right and up/down (for climbing ladders). A Button: Jump. B Button: Attack (slash with the Dragon Sword). Select Button: Cycle through available sub‑weapons. Start Button: Pause the game / open the menu.
Trivia
Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom was the final Ninja Gaiden title released on the NES, and its Japanese version featured a different ending and slightly altered difficulty compared to the Western release.
